Wisconsin Summer

There is something about summer in Wisconsin. The smell of freshly cut grass, meats cooking on the grill, camp fires, and cold beer. Or maybe it’s simply the fact that you’ve survived the long and brutal winter that makes the summer that much sweeter. In any case, after a year of travel I was very much looking forward to settling back in for a good ‘ole Wisconsin summer.

Summerfest

Known for being the world’s largest music festival, Summerfest has been an institution in Milwaukee since 1968. This 11 day lakefront festival hosts over 1000 performances and just under 1 million attendees. Normally I tend to go out of my way to avoid crowds, but for whatever reason I always make an exception for Summerfest.

Brewer Game

It can’t be summer without at least one trip to the ballpark.

What I remember most from this game was that it was hot – good thing the beer was cold!

Zoo

I took advantage of a work sponsored family day event at the zoo. It had been a few years since I’d been so I enjoyed a nice Sunday at the Milwaukee County Zoo.

Kayaking

My friend Will is an avid kayaker so he finally got me out on the water.

A thunderstorm interrupted our kayaking for a couple hours. We didn’t mind, we waited out the storm by throwing back a few cold ones.

Door County

I spent a few days earlier this summer exploring the Apostle Islands. I also managed to squeeze in a very quick trip to Door County in late summer.

Paint the Fence

Wax on, wax off. Now paint the fence! My biggest project of the summer was to repair and paint my fence. It was a job even Mr. Miyagi would’ve been proud of. I only mention it here to show the fact that my summer wasn’t merely all fun and games. But unlike Daniel LaRusso, after completion I did not know karate.

I’m strangely proud of the fact that I painted my entire fence (most of which is not even shown in these pictures), with this tiny brush!! Don’t ask me why I didn’t rent a sprayer or at least buy a larger brush – I really have no idea!

Badger Football

You know summer is coming to a close and fall is upon us when Wisconsin Badger football games are on the calendar. I typically make it to at least a couple games a year. This year was no different. Go Bucky!

I used this summer as a time to relax, enjoy some fun events, get some work done around my house, and also try to catch up with some friends. There are so many things that make Wisconsin summers so great. Music festivals, outdoor activities, yard games, bonfires, and barbecues just to name a few.

Plus – for a few short months we get to forget about winter.
