Truckee River Rafting

My friend Kris and I take an hour drive up to Truckee today to seek a little adventure. We came to do some Truckee River rafting. I can’t believe I’ve never been whitewater rafting! The river is mainly Class 2 to Class 3+ rapids. A good river for a couple of newbies.

It was a perfect 80 degree day. Just like Lake Tahoe, the water is so clear and inviting yet absolutely freezing cold. The other woman in the raft wore a wet suit and wanted to jump in during a calm section of the river. She immediately regretted it and had to be pulled back into the raft. I dangled my outer leg over the raft and into the water at times. It reminded me of the ice baths I would submerge a sprained ankle into back in my college basketball days.

We spent roughly 3 hours rafting. A photographer was taking photos of the trip but there was some sort of snafu. Long story short – we didn’t get any pictures from our trip. I’m super bummed.

Fortunately I brought my GoPro so all is not completely lost. I made this video with some highlights.

Downtown Truckee

After rafting it’s time to hit the town. I would describe Truckee as a quintessential mountain town. We check out the downtown scene, do a little window shopping, and grab some dinner.

What a fun day hanging out in Truckee and doing some Truckee River rafting! It was my first whitewater rafting experience, but I’m fairly certain it won’t be my last.
